- Q. How do I enroll in the Group Universal Life (GUL) program?
A. The Group Universal Life (GUL) Insurance program, sponsored by the State of Delaware and underwritten by Minnesota Life, combines life insurance protection with the ability to accumulate cash value on a tax-advantaged basis. When you are initially eligible for this benefit, a personalized enrollment packet will be sent to your home and you may purchase one, two or three times your base annual salary up to a maximum of $200,000 without providing evidence of good health. Employees may purchase four, five or six times their base annual salary with evidence of good health. After you have read the information in your personalized enrollment packet, log onto http://www.lifebenefits.com or access Minnesota Life's website from here using the user ID and password information provided in your enrollment packet.
Term life insurance is also available for your eligible spouse and dependent child(ren). Effective January 1, 2011, the dependent life options are a choice between $10,000 or $20,000 for spouse coverage and/or $10,000 per child(ren) coverage. If spouse and/or child coverage is chosen during your initial eligibility period, evidence of good health is not required.
There is no open enrollment period for life insurance. Eligible State of Delaware employees can apply for enrollment anytime after their initial eligibility period expires by providing Minnesota Life with evidence of good health. Employees who enroll in the GUL program are automatically covered for Accidental Death & Dismemberment through age 70. Rates vary based on age and coverage elections.
